Townsend Trivia Night Funds Interact Scholarship

Submitted by Pat Plantenberg on Mon, 11/06/2017 - 05:26

On Thursday November 2, the Helena Sunrise Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Townsend sponsored Trivia Night at the American Legion in Townsend to raise money for an Interact Scholarship for a Townsend Interact Club student.  The Rotary Club of Townsend is currently helping form a brand new Interact Club for Townsend Youth.  Two of the potential new Interact Club students attended Trivia Night.

WHAT IS INTERACT?

Interact is a service club for youth ages 12 to 18 who want to connect with other young people and have fun while serving their communities and learning about the world.  Clubs, which meet at least twice a month, are sponsored by local Rotary clubs. Interact clubs organize two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.  Members of sponsor Rotary clubs mentor Interactors as they carry out the projects and develop leadership skills.  The name was created by combining the words international and action.

RESULTS

Ninety people attended Trivia Night and nine teams competed to raise funds for the scholarship.  Several teams challenged one another to see which team would get the highest score.  The team losing would put extra money toward the scholarship.  The Rotary team (aka “A Guy Walked into a Bar”) challenged the Broadwater Area Lions Club team to an extra $100 challenge which Rotary won handily.  The Broadwater Health Center Auxiliary team challenged the Creative Closet team (aka “Closet Trivia”) to a $90 challenge which the Auxiliary team won.  A team made up of last minute walk-in entries and named “TK’s Garage” won first place.  Over $1,500 were raised for the scholarship.  Special thanks to Michelle Vanisko and the rest of the Helena Sunrise Rotary Club for making this event possible.

As part of the $10 entry fee, the Rotary Club of Townsend served chili, taco soup, navy bean soup, corn bread, corn chips, cookies, brownies, etc.  Where else can you get a good meal, laugh, and learn something while raising money for a good cause on a Thursday night?  There is another place….

The Helena Sunrise Rotary Club sponsors Trivia Night in Helena on the third Thursday of every month at the Staggering Ox from 6-8 pm.  Every month, they raise money for a different charily.  Please join Helena and Townsend residents traveling to Helena on November 16th to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  See you November 16th.  Raising money is not just a trivial pursuit!
