Daniel Wyse First Ever Student Rotary Board Member

Submitted by Pat Plantenberg on Sun, 10/21/2018 - 12:07

(Townsend October 20) The Rotary Club of Townsend has developed a new pilot project and is leading the way statewide, nationally, and internationally to promote young professionals in Rotary. Statistics show the vast majority of high school students that are involved in Interact Clubs as well as college students and other young professionals that are involved in Rotaract Clubs do not eventually join local Rotary Clubs. The Rotary Club of Townsend, following the Broadwater Community Foundation example, has modified its by-laws to allow the Interact Club President to be a full voting member of the Rotary Club of Townsend Board of Directors. The Rotary Club of Townsend believes you have to give these young leaders the chance to not only observe Rotary from a distance but participate actively as Rotarians in Rotary Club activities. These young leaders as Interact Club members are Rotarians and should be treated as such!

Daniel Wyse is the current Rotary sponsored Interact Club President and is the first student to serve on the Rotary Board of Directors. Daniel has been very active in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) summer camp as an attendee and as a junior counselor. He has been instrumental in helping form the local Interact Club and in developing the leadership and team training events sponsored by the Interact Club over the last two years. Daniel is the youngest member ever to serve on a Rotary Board!

Rotary: Join Leaders. Exchange Ideas. Take Action.

Congratulations to Daniel Wyse!

About Interact Interact gives students ages 12-18 the chance to make a real difference while having fun. Every Interact Club carries out two service projects a year: one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. The Interact Club is sponsored by the local Rotary Club of Townsend. When you sponsor an Interact Club, you’re helping young people: connect with community leaders, develop leadership skills, make international connections, and discover more opportunities to connect with Rotary, including Rotaract (students ages 18-30), Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Youth Exchange.
