On a warm July 21, the July Slice of Summer at Heritage Park attracted hundreds of people. Slice of Summer is a family friendly event sponsored by Townsend Rotary, Broadwater Community Development Corporation, Townsend Lions Club, Townsend 4H, Elkhorn Community Fellowship, Townsend Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Townsend. The event features live music, food and many kids activities.
The Rotary Club, Lions Club and Townsend 4H sold hamburgers, nachos, brats, hotdogs, sodas, ice-cream and rootbeer floats. Kids events featured a bouncy house, a climbing wall (provided by Elkhorn Community Fellowship), a Treasure Hunt for small children and free swimming at the Townsend pool.
The Volunteer Fire Department was on hand with a fire truck and gave tours to children as well as an opportunity to wear their "turnout gear".
In addition to the local community attendees, 2 groups of bicyclists stopped to enjoy the Slice of Summer event. One group from Missouri is bicy cling across the west. The other group was 2 Rotarians from Missoula on a bicylce tour through Montana, Yellowstone Park and Wyoming. All of the bicyclists were glad they stopped in and they had a great time.
The Slice of Summer event offers a great opportunity for all of the community to join with friends to celebrate summer in the tradition of old community summer events that seemed to have disappeared from most communities. If you haven't come to a Slice of Summer, come and enjoy the company of your friends and neighbors at this family friendly event.

The next Slice of Summer will be held on August 18th at the Townsend Heritage Park. This Slice of Summer will be slightly different than our other Slice of Summer events. The August Slice of Summer will have the traditional Slice of Summer featuring many kids activities from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. After 5:00 we will switch to an adult oriented Slice of Summer featuring 2 bands. The opening Band will be Great American Heroes (a Butte band) and they will be opening for Cold Hard Cash a long time favorite band in Montana. The Townsend Rotary Club will be selling Brats, Hot Dogs and Beer throughout the Adult Slice of Summer.
