On a warm July 21 evening, two groups of bicyclists stopped at the Slice of Summer event at the Heritage Park. Slice of Summer is a family friendly event sponsored by Townsend Rotary, Broadwater Community Development Corporation, Townsend Lions Club, Townsend 4H, Elkhorn Community Fellowship, Townsend Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Townsend. The event features live music, food and many kids activities.
A group of 3 bicylists from Missouri stopped in Townsend and joined in the Slice of Summer events. They enjoyed the event and even posed for pictures. To view the July Slice of Summer Gallery click on July Slice of Summer Gallery.
The same evening 2 bicyclists from Washington touring Montana, Yellowstone Park and Wyoming on bicycle also stopped at the Slice of Summer event and enjoyed Rotary brats and the live music provided by Longhorn - a Helena area band.(visit their Facebook page at ). Rotarian Steve Harvey from the Rotary Club of Kelso, Wa. and his friend Art Birkmeyer from Longview Washington. Path Platenberg presented Steve with a new Rotary logo magnetic pin from the Townsend Rotary Club to use on his trip.
The next Slice of Summer will be held on August 18th at the Townsend Heritage Park. This Slice of Summer will be slightly different than our other Slice of Summer events. The August Slice of Summer will have the traditional Slice of Summer featuring many kids activities from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. After 5:00 we will switch to an adult oriented Slice of Summer featuring 2 bands. The opening Band will beGreat American Heroes (a Butte band) and they will be opening for Cold Hard Cash a long time favorite band in Montana. The Townsend Rotary Club will be selling Brats, Hot Dogs and Beer throughout the Adult Slice of Summer.
