Rotary Says Farewell to Brazil Exchange Student Carina

Submitted by vsample on Wed, 07/27/2016 - 09:55

In 2015, The Townsend Rotary Club sponsored it's first Foreign Exchange Student in the 77 year history of the club. Andee Akerman was chosen to be the Townsend student to go to Brazil. In return, the Townsend Rotary Club sponsored Brazilian student Ana Carina Ernesto Jose (known to us as Carina).

Carina stayed here in Townsend for a full year. The first 8 months she was hosted by Diane and Ross Johnson. She then spent 4 months with Beth Ihle. During her year here in Townsend, Carina traveled to many cities within Montana and to several states with various Townsend Rotary members. Carina visited South Dakota, Idaho, Washington and New, York.

Unfortunately, Andee was not able to complete her year in Brazil due to family illness. However, Andee said the time she was able to attend school in Brazil was a great adventure and very satisfying to her.  Andee returned to Townsend and finished the school year here.

Last night, Tuesday July 26, the Townsend Rotary Club had a Potluck Fish Fry at Heritage Park in honor of their First Exchange Program Students Carina and Andee.  From here, Carina will go back home to Brazil then off to South Africa for an extended visit.

The Townsend Rotary wishes the best to Carina and hopes she enjoyed being here in Townsend as much as all of us enjoyed having her here.
