Submitted by vsample on Sat, 07/30/2016 - 05:20

Broadwater Health Center Auxiliary members are gearing up to hold the annual rodeo barbeque at Memorial Park in Townsend on Sunday, Aug. 7.  The family and friend event will begin at 11:00am when Auxiliary members and Broadwater Rural Fire Department members will serve up roast beef and all the trimmings.

First cutting hay is in, the kids have turned in their 4-H books and now it’s time to sit back, enjoy the rodeo parade and visit with friends and neighbors at the barbeque.  The event, in its 53rd year, began as a way to provide a meal for riders, stock providers and vendors at the rodeo before a concession stand was established.    Over the years the event has become a county social time for not only rodeo participants but everyone who comes out for the day.

The many beef roasts, provided by Bob’s Supermarket, will be barbequed by the now master chefs Keith Kirscher, Larry Woodring and Vic Sample.  Auxiliary members will make the potato salad and bean dishes.  Cookies and drinks completed the full meal.  The price will be $10.00 per adult and $5.00 for children 12 and under.

Music will be provided by Tom and Joan Eliel and Gary Thuele.

According to Auxiliary President Jackie Kynett planning and executing a dinner for 200 plus people is not taken on alone by a group:

“ We rely heavily on help setting up from hospital employees and board members, Rotary members and State Bank of Townsend  employees.  We really do appreciate their help both setting up and cleaning up. We want to thank in advance all those folks who come out to help.” she said.

Proceeds from the event go to purchase of equipment and room remodels of the BHC nursing home.  New lift chairs, lift slings, beds and other furnishings have been pur chased in the past.

The BHC Auxiliary, formed in 1981, currently has 26 members.  The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the hospital conference room.  For more information or to join the Auxiliary, please contact Jackie Kynett at
