On February 13, the Rotary Club of Townsend and the Montana Rotary District 5390 District Governor Joe McBride and his wife Libby recognized a special group of Broadwater High School students: Ronnie Steele, Parker Hufnagel, Daniel Wyse, Olivia Lynn, TommiJo Steele, and Taylor Noyes. These students most of whom attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) last year, came back to school in late August 2017 fired up and ready to do something special.

On February 13 Patrick Plantenberg was inducted into the Towsend "Wall of Fame". Jerry Roedacker (a "Wall of Fame" member) inducted Patrick. The Townsend "Wall of Fame" honors a very small group of outstanding Rotarians who have served Rotary and the Townsend Community over a long period of time.

On February 13, 2018 the Townsend Interact Club Founders (Broadwater High School Students) were honored for their initiative in founding an Interact Club in Townsend. The Montana Rotary District Governor was visiting the Townsend Rotary Club and was on hand for the recoginition of these outstanding members of the Townsend Community. District Governor Joe McBride noted that he was only aware of 6 other Interact Clubs within Montana and that this was an outstanding initiative.

On February 13, 2018 the Rotary District Governor (District 5390 - Montana) Joe McBride and his wife Libby McBride visited Townsend and the Townsend Rotary Club. Pat Platenberg and Ross Johnson took Joe and Libby on a tour of Townsend and the many projects the Townsend Rotarians have completed or participated in getting done.

Rotary Club of Townsend volunteers are offering Kids Learn to Skate Lessons. Rotarians are available after 4:30 pm on weekdays and on Saturdays. To schedule an appointment, please call Patrick Plantenberg at 431-4615. Townsend Skating Rink LLC has skates available at the rink at Holloway Park.

On January 24th a number of representatives of local organizations, including 5 Rotarians, met at the Highway 12 Caffe to have lunch with Mary Ann Cotter and her cousing Janice Doggett. Rotarians Laura Obert, Pat Plantenburg, John Rains, Vic Sample and Jeff Langlinais were in attendance representing not only Rotary but also the County Commissioners, Townsend Tree Board, Canton Church, Broadwater Co. Museum and the Broadwater Community Foundation. Mary Ann is the daughter of Broadwater County native Tom Cotter.

Every year the Townsend Rotary Club send 4-6 high school students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy for a week long leadership training camp. The students participate in a variety of events designed to develop their leadership skills. Every attendee has come back home very happy with the time they spend at RYLA and feel it was truly a life changing event.

On Jan 6, 2018 the Townsend Rotary Club held our annual Holiday Party at the old Masonic Hall in Townsend -- courtesy of the building owner Tina Edelblut. Dinner was catered by Chef Rex Dunbar featuring brisket, smashed red potatoes, salad and rolls. The Rotary members and spouses contributed deserts in the Great Holiday Dessert competition.
The Rotary members performed an hilarious skit "Bus Ride to Everywhere" with vignettes highlighting different themes.

The Townsend Rotary Club is partnering with Artisans On Broadway to offer art programs to the residents of the Broadwater Health Center Nursing Home, Silver Springs Assisted Living and Serenity Point Assisted Living. Last year Pam Sample, owner of the Artisans on Broadway Gallery started visiting the Senior homes and conducting free art projects with the residents of the facilities sponsored by The Townsend Rotary Club. Artisans On Broadway plans to offer art projects to the Seniors every quarter throughout the year.
